European Payment Index

European Payment Index

Each year we carry out a written survey in 25 European countries involving several thousand companies. The results of the survey are published in the European Payment Index Report and the country reports, which are drafted in the respective national language and contain more in depth details.

The yearly interval is intended to capture and compare international trends and provide companies with a reliable basis for decision making and effective benchmarks.

The European Payment Index 2011 is the 7th edition, although the first report was issued in 1998 in cooperation with a workgroup of the European Commission.

Payment loss effect

Payment loss effect

The European Payment Index 2010 revealed that the average European written-off percentage increased from 2.4% to 2.6%.

This is mostly likely caused by the increase in bankruptcies due to the recession. Written-off debt is especially hurtful for companies as extra sales efforts are needed to set the balance straight.
