“My best tip for young women starting their careers is to find a mentor”

Susanne Allenberg, Global Service Centers Director, shares her reflections about diversity and her best tips for young women at the start of their career.

Why is diversity important in professional life?

Diversity enables dynamic in the workplace. Your success as a leader depends on your ability to create a culture where everyone’s voice is heard and taken seriously. By having a diverse team, you will gain a lot of different angles and ideas on how to solve challenges. For me it’s a must.

Do you think women lead differently than men? If yes, how?

I would say both yes and no. I believe leadership is more dependent on the person and the skill set than on the specific gender. As a leader I believe we get wiser with age, at least I hope so.

How would you describe your way of leading?

I believe in a flat organization, where people’s voice and development matters. I love when my employees and colleagues challenge me. Being able to challenge your manager is an evidence that we have a culture and working environment with high trust. I want the dialogues and deliveries to be focused on our most important stakeholders; our employees, our clients and  their customers.

What is your most important tip for young women starting their careers?

Find a mentor. Someone who can help you to navigate and continue to develop yourself and your strengths. Take decisions based on facts in combination with analysing the situation. And not the least; continue to aim BIG.

What gives you most pride in your work at Intrum?

I’m specifically proud when I’m in a meeting and my team is totally taking over the dialog, focusing on solutions and creative innovations. I know that I can fully trust the competence and experience of my employees, and it is rewarding when we deliver high value to our stakeholders.
