“Gender diversification guarantees more insights and more solutions”

Julia Reuszner works as the Managing Director of Sweden at Intrum. She has shared some reflections about why diversity is important at the workplace.

Why is diversity important in professional life?

All groups and companies should be constituted of people based on their merits. I believe that more diversification in a team guarantees more insights, angles, thoughts and hence solutions.

What is your most important tip for young women starting their careers?

That would be the same tip as I would give for anyone starting their career. Find a mentor and role model. Someone to help you develop in your work. This can be your manager or someone else inside the company you work for.

Do you see any specific challenges for women in leadership positions?

I primarily see advantages. For the first 20 years of my career I found it sometimes challenging to be a woman in the quite male dominated industries I have been in. But I believe the winds have changed. Being a woman is a competitive advantage since we are still in minority, but with a strong driving force in society to change this. I realize this is not true for all situations, but on an overall level I am convinced the winds have changed.

What gives you most pride in your work at Intrum?

Our high ethics. We are a sustainability company and truly make a difference in terms of our impact on society for many people in sensitive situations. I think this is also why we have so many talented and driven employees. I enjoy every day at work, both because I like what I do but also because of my clever, kind and fun colleagues.
